“A key outcome of this agreement is the extension of the sanctions regime from six to 36 months. This reduces the risk of sanctions renewals becoming the subject of political negotiations every six months,” Tsahkna said.
“Estonia did not support lifting sanctions on these two prominent Russian businessmen, as they continue to support the aggressor and contribute to its aggression. Estonia therefore abstained from the vote on the Council decision concerning their removal,” Tsahkna added.
The Foreign Minister reiterated Estonia’s clear position that the Kremlin has not changed its objectives and that sanctions pressure on Russia and those supporting its aggression must increase. “Estonia will therefore impose national sanctions on Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman,” Foreign Minister Tsahkna said.
