According to Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, the meeting once again confirms that the NB8 is a unique and closely connected region with significant weight in Europe and NATO. He noted that Estonia’s closest like-minded partners are right here in our neighbourhood – the Nordic and Baltic countries. “The NB8 cooperation network has become the primary coordination format and contact point for our foreign policy, from which we engage jointly with the wider world. Together, we form the world’s ninth-largest economy, are among the strongest supporters of Ukraine, and share positions on nearly all key international issues,” Tsahkna said.
This year, Estonia holds the chairmanship of Nordic-Baltic cooperation and aims to use this role not only to coordinate foreign policy but also to further integrate the region in practical terms. The NB8 cooperation format brings together Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Iceland.
A joint press conference by the foreign ministers and the EU High Representative will take place on 30 April at 13:45.
