“It is important for Estonia to continue providing consistent support to people suffering from the direct effects of war. Humanitarian assistance helps to address the most urgent needs and supports people’s ability to cope even in the most difficult circumstances,” said Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna.
€53,000 will be allocated to the NGO Estonian Refugee Council to provide internally displaced persons, in particular families with children, the elderly and people with disabilities, with hot meals, food parcels and essential basic items. The NGO Mondo will receive €67,000 for its activities in Lebanon, providing food and in-kind assistance to internally displaced persons both in accommodation centres and outside them, primarily targeting women with children. “NGOs are highly reliable partners for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with long-standing experience in Lebanon. Mondo has been working in Lebanon since 2016 and the Estonian Refugee Council since 2020,” the foreign minister said.
“Intensified attacks against Lebanon and the rapidly deteriorating situation require a swift and coordinated response from the international community. Estonia’s contribution helps provide life-saving assistance to people who have lost their homes and sense of security,” Tsahkna stressed. “Last month, the United Nations and the Government of Lebanon appealed to the international community for $308.3 million to address the humanitarian situation caused by the war.”
Estonia’s humanitarian aid focuses on supporting the most vulnerable and helps to mitigate both the immediate and long-term impacts of conflicts.
