Foreign Ministry Secretary General Jonatan Vseviov speaks at Arctic conference on European security

Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jonatan Vseviov visited Iceland from 6 to 8 October, where he met with Secretary General of the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs Martin Eyjólfsson and took part in the Arctic Circle Assembly conference in Reykjavík.

During his meeting with Eyjólfsson, Vseviov discussed bilateral relations between Estonia and Iceland, continued support for Ukraine, Nordic-Baltic cooperation, global issues and security in the Arctic.

In addition to bilateral consultations, Vseviov took part in the plenary discussion “A Secure and Sustainable Arctic” at the Arctic Circle Assembly. Together with Eivind Vad Petersson, State Secretary at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Uma Kumaran, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, he discussed the interconnected security and future of the Arctic and Baltic Sea regions. The Arctic Circle Assembly is one of the world’s most important international forums focusing on the future of the Arctic, bringing together nearly 3,000 participants in Reykjavík.

The visit also included various bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the conference. The Secretary General also gave an interview to Iceland’s national broadcaster.
