At the presentation of credentials, Ambassador Luup highlighted the strong cooperation between Estonia and Kazakhstan and between the European Union and Kazakhstan, and affirmed her commitment to further developing bilateral relations. The state visit by the President of Estonia last autumn provided a strong foundation for closer relations and new opportunities for cooperation. During the visit, several memoranda of cooperation were signed between government institutions and businesses, creating opportunities to significantly expand existing cooperation.
“Kazakhstan is an important political and economic partner for Estonia in Central Asia. In 2027, Estonia and Kazakhstan will mark 35 years of diplomatic relations. Kazakhstan is a regional leader, its economy is developing rapidly, this year is dedicated to the country’s digitalisation, and Kazakh companies are increasingly expanding globally. I see the greatest potential for cooperation in logistics, trade, digital development, technology and education,” Ambassador Luup said.
Marje Luup joined the foreign service in 1996. She has worked at Estonian embassies in Helsinki and Stockholm as an economic diplomat and deputy head respectively. Between 2003 and 2010, Marje Luup headed the Development Cooperation Division of the External Economic Policy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and from 2004 to 2010, she was also acting Director General of EU Development Cooperation. From 2013 to 2023, Marje Luup worked as the Director General of the Administrative Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tallinn. Between 2023 and 2026, she was the Estonian Ambassador to India, and a non-resident Ambassador to Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Since 2026, Marje Luup has served as Estonia’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan, residing in Astana.
