In the conversation following the presentation ceremony, Ambassador Rannu congratulated President Begaj on the decision to launch European Union accession negotiations and reaffirmed Estonia’s support and readiness to share its accession experience with Albania.
Discussing Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, Ambassador Rannu and President Begaj emphasised the need for maximum efforts to help Ukraine win the war and make the price of the war as high as possible for Russia. “I recognise Albania for its steadfast help and support to Ukraine, including in the UN Security Council,” Rannu said. “At the meeting, we underlined the need to join like-minded countries in raising the cost of Russia’s brutal war until it loses.”
They also spoke about the security situation on the Western Balkans and possibilities of closer bilateral cooperation, including in the digital and cyber domain. “Albania is a good Ally of Estonia in NATO,” Rannu said. “We are working together on reinforcing NATO’s Eastern Flank.”
Ambassador Rannu resides in Athens, Greece. In addition to Albania and Greece, she represents Estonia in Cyprus. Ambassador Karin Rannu joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996. She has worked at the Press and Information Department and at the Estonian embassy in Sweden. Karin Rannu has also worked as the Foreign Relations Adviser at the Permanent Representation of Estonia to the EU in Brussels. Between 2018 and 2020, she was the Brexit Coordinator in Estonia and from 2020 to 2021, she was the Special Representative on Baltic Sea Cooperation. The ambassador has a history degree with honours from the University of Tartu. She speaks English, Swedish, German, Russian, French and Finnish.
