The consultations focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Estonia and Kyrgyzstan, with a particular focus on economic, trade and education issues. Opportunities for development cooperation were also discussed.
Estonia’s projects in Kyrgyzstan to date have focused primarily on improving access to and the use of information and communications technology, while cooperation has also taken place in the fields of education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and human rights. Estonia confirmed its readiness to continue sharing its experience in e-governance and supporting Kyrgyzstan’s goals of digital development and modernising public services.
Kyrgyzstan has been elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2027–2028. During the meeting, Estonia shared its experience as a Security Council member in 2020–2021, and both sides affirmed their mutual interest in strengthening cooperation in international organisations.
Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine was a key topic of discussion. Estonia stressed that Russia has not changed its aggressive course and that international pressure must continue through both sanctions and political isolation. Estonia also reaffirmed its continued and comprehensive support for Ukraine. Russia’s actions constitute a grave violation of international law and the principles of the UN Charter and must have clear consequences.
The meeting also covered the security situation in both the Baltic Sea region and Central Asia, with the participants noting that cooperation between countries has increased in both regions. Kyrgyzstan’s possible participation in the Ukraine Recovery Conference taking place in Tallinn in January 2027 was also discussed.
