Meeting with the ambassadors, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stressed that it is of utmost importance to Estonia that the world functions in accordance with the UN Charter and the rules-based international order. “Russia’s aggression against Ukraine concerns not only Ukraine’s future but also European and international security architecture. We must continue to support Ukraine comprehensively, increase pressure on Russia, and ensure that aggression does not pay. There must be no grey zones in European security, as they create conditions for further aggression. Our goal is a just and lasting peace based on international law and Ukraine’s sovereignty,” Foreign Minister Tsahkna said.
During the meeting, the Foreign Minister provided an overview of the recent meeting in Estonia between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the leaders of the Nordic-Baltic countries (NB8). He also addressed the European security situation, support for Ukraine and efforts to increase pressure on Russia.
In addition, he spoke about Russia’s disinformation campaigns, strengthening NATO’s deterrence and defence capabilities, and Estonia’s plans to expand its diplomatic presence worldwide by opening new embassies in Brazil, Kenya, Azerbaijan and Moldova.
At the conference, which is being held for the fifth time, presentations were also delivered by Jonatan Vseviov, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Minna-Liina Lind, Undersecretary for Global Affairs.
The ambassadors will also be received by President Alar Karis and Prime Minister Kristen Michal. The programme includes a meeting with the representative of the AI Leap initiative, who will present Estonia’s programme for the application of artificial intelligence in education.
