Foreign Minister Sven Mikser offered condolences following the incident with the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission patrol in Luhansk, eastern Ukraine and condemned the incident. One member of the Special Monitoring Mission died and two were injured.
“My sincere condolences to the loved ones of the member of the Monitoring Mission killed and I wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured,” Mikser said. “I condemn acts that put the lives, security and freedom of movement of monitors in danger. The incident must be thoroughly investigated and those responsible have to be prosecuted,” emphasised the Foreign Minister.
Main tasks of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine include observing and reporting in an impartial and objective way on the situation in Ukraine and facilitating dialogue among all parties to the crisis. Seven monitors from Estonia also participate in the Special Monitoring Mission. According to the knowledge of the Foreign Ministry, Estonians were not hurt in the incident.
