On Thursday 21 July Estonian ambassador Daniel Erik Schaer presented his credentials to Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegovič in Sarajevo. Ambassador Schaer resides in Tallinn.

In discussions following the presentation of credentials, Ambassador Schaer and Chairman Izetbegovič talked about relations between Estonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, including entry into bilateral agreements, development of trade and tourism and relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Union. “Estonia fully supports Bosnia and Herzegovina in its efforts to integrate with the European Union,” Schaer said.

In discussing relations between their countries, the ambassador and the chairman agreed that a number of opportunities to foster trade relations had gone unused and should be implemented more effectively, particularly in the field of IT. Chairman Izetbegovič also thanked Estonia for sharing its knowledge and experience in state-building and reforms with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Daniel Erik Schaer was born in Toronto in 1978. He graduated from the University of British Columbia in International Relations before obtaining a Master’s degree in European Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges. In 2008 he took up the post of chargé d’affaires on the Estonian Special Mission to Afghanistan before joining the Permanent Representation of Estonia to the European Union, representing Estonia on the Committee for Civilian Aspects of Crisis Management in Brussels. From March to July 2011 he acted as the Special Representative of the Foreign Minister in Lebanon. From 2011 to September 2015 he was employed in the Foreign Service of the European Union, serving as the head of the policy section of the European Union delegation in Rwanda.
