The Republic of Lebanon recognised Estonia’s independence on 30 October 1991, and diplomatic relations were established on 2 September 2001.

The first ambassador of Lebanon, Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Estonia on 4 April 2002. From 2004–2007 the Lebanese ambassador to Estonia was Mr. Massoud Maalouf, who resided in Warsaw. Since 2008 there is no ambassador appointed to Estonia and communication takes place through the chargé d’affaires in Warsaw.

Since 2003, the Estonian honorary consul in Lebanon has been Sami Elias Kamouh.

The first ambassador of Estonia to the Republic of Lebanon was Aivo Orav, who was ambassador from May 2011 until February 2012 and resided in Ankara, Turkey. As of February 2013 the Estonian ambassador to the Republic of Lebanon is Miko Haljas, who also resides in Ankara.

In 2012, 773 000 EUR worth of goods were exported to Lebanon and Lebanon was Estonia’s 94th export partner. The main articles of export were paper pulp and paper products, wood and wood products, and other manufactured goods.

In 2012 imports totalled 76 000 EUR in value, which made Lebanon Estonia’s 88th import partner. The main import articles were plastics and plastic products , products of stone, gypsum, cement, and other such materials, and beverages.
According to Bank of Estonia data, Estonia has made minimal direct investments in Lebanon. Lebanon has invested in Estonia’s wholesale and retail trade sector.
