President of Malta will pay a state visit to Estonia
2005-06-14 15:25:11President of the Republic of Malta Guido de Marco will start his state visit to Estonia on Wednesday, 2nd May. President de Marco will be accompanied by his spouse and official delegation.
Guido de Marco will meet with President Lennart Meri on Wednesday.
The President of Malta is to meet with Chairman of the Riigikogu (Parliament) Toomas Savi, Prime Minister Mart Laar and Mayor of Tallinn Jüri Mõis on Thursday, 3rd May. On the same day Guido de Marco will also visit Tartu, where he will meet with Mayor of Tartu Andrus Ansip, Chairman of the City Council Peeter Tulviste and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Uno Lõhmus.
The President of Malta will address at the University of Tartu and is to meet with Vice-Rector of the University Volli Kalm. The Presidents of Estonia and Malta will give a joint press conference at Atlantis Conference Centre in Tartu.
President of Malta Guido de Marco will leave Estonia on Friday afternoon.
Relations between Estonia and Malta are very good and have been more active since both states became the EU candidate countries. In 2000 the total volume of the trade turnover between Estonia and Malta was 21.98 million
kroons (USD 1.25 million). Estonia’s exports to Malta totalled 15.16 million kroons and Malta was on the 53rd place among Estonia’s export partners. At the same time Estonia’s imports from Malta was 6.82 million kroons and Malta was on the 76th place among Estonia’s import partners.
