Bilateral relations

(last updated: 21.02.2013)

Haiti has not recognised the Republic of Estonia with a separate legal instrument, but the reciprocal recognition of the two states took place when the Republic of Estonia joined the UN on 17 September 1991. Haiti has been a member of the UN since 9 December 1966. Estonia and Haiti established diplomatic relations on 31 March 2010.

For Estonians Haiti can to some degree be considered a common tourist destination, which is visited by tourists staying in the neighbouring Dominican Republic. Estonian citizens can visit Haiti without a visa. Estonia has an honorary consul in the Republic of Haiti – George Hudicourt. The honorary consul’s office is located in the capital Port-au-Prince and his consular region is the entire territory of the Republic of Haiti.

There are effectively no economic relations between Estonia and Haiti.
