Muuga CT Handles Record Amount of Goods

4 May (BNS)

AS Muuga CT, a subsidiary of Transiidikeskuse AS, handled 20 751 TEUs of goods this April, the all-time record for the company. The new record of the Muuga container terminal is 47% higher than the amount of goods handled in the same period last year, the company said. In the first four months of this year the amount of goods handled was 77 296 TEUs, 33% more than in the same period last year.

"Our container goods handling growth figures show that despite preferential development of Russia's own ports and a lack of political will, container goods can successfully replace oil transit rerouted from Estonia," Erik Laidvee, board chairman of Transiidikeskus said.

The goods turnover of the subsidiaries of Transiidikeskus in the first four months this year totalled 983 000 tons, seven percent more than in the same period last year.

Operator companies of Transiidikeskus handled a total of 2.65 million tons of different goods in 2011. The turnover of container goods grew 30% compared with 2010.

Transiidikeskus is the only Estonian operator of specialised container and deep-freeze terminals operator at Muuga Port.
