Estonian and Moldovan Defence Ministers Sign Co-operation Agreement
19 October
Minister of Defence Mart Laar met today with his Moldovan colleague Vitalie Marinuta, with whom he signed a framework agreement for defence-related co-operation between the two countries.
The framework agreement that was signed lays the foundation for potential future defence-related co-operation and information exchange between Estonia and Moldova. During their meeting, Laar and Marinuta also spoke about the situation in Moldova and developments in the country’s defence reform.
Minister of Defence Laar stated that Moldova has set a clear course towards the West. “Defence-related co-operation between Estonia and Moldova has thus far been very modest, but hopefully the framework agreement we signed today will bring new opportunities. One opportunity for Estonia to help Moldova is for Moldovan students to continue coming to study at the Baltic Defence College in Tartu,” said Minister of Defence Laar.
Minister of Defence Marinuta is in Estonia today and tomorrow as part of the delegation accompanying Moldovan Prime Minister Vladimir Filat.
