Bilateral relations

Diplomatic relations between Estonia and San Marino were established on 9 July 2003. San Marino’s first ambassador to Estonia Silvia Berti presented her credentials to President Ilves on 21 February 2008. The ambassador resides in San Marino.

Estonia’s first ambassador to San Marino, Andres Tomasberg, held the position from February 2009 to August 2010. The current ambassador Merike Kokajev presented her credentials to Captains Regent of San Marino Giovanni Francesco Ugolini II and Andrea Zafferani I on 25 October 2010. The ambassador resides in Rome.

No high-level visits have taken place.

Economic relations

Economic relations between Estonia and San Marino are minimal. According to the data of Statistics Estonia, in 2010 San Marino was Estonia’s 118th trade partner with a total turnover of about 171 000 EUR, in 2011 San Marino was Estonia's 120th trade partner with a turnover of about 221 000 EUR, and as of 31 December 2012 the country was our 124th trade partrner with a turnover of 162 000 EUR. According to Bank of Estonia data, there are no reciprocal investments.

As of 1 January 2011 there is one more connection between the two countries. Estonia is now a party to the decisions made regarding the euro, which is also the currency of San Marino (as well as Monaco and the Vatican).
