On Thursday, 9 December, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Legal and Consular Affairs Lauri Bambus opened Estonia’s first honorary consulate in Bolivia in La Paz. The Estonian honorary consul in La Paz is Ramiro Moreno Baldivieso.
Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Lauri Bambus expressed hope that the opening of the honorary consulate in Bolivia would help to advance bilateral relations, including business contacts and economic ties. “Our new honorary consul can help to export Estonia’s IT experiences to Bolivia and to create contacts that are of interest, for example in the energy sector,” said Undersecretary Bambus.
In his speech to the guests of the opening ceremony, the new honorary consul confirmed that as a practicing jurist he would like to advance bilateral relations in the international law sector. “The opening of an Estonian Honorary Consulate in Bolivia will allow countries that are geographically distant to grow closer to one another through culture, education, technology, and economic affairs,” he added.

Honorary Consul Ramiro Moreno Baldivieso was born in Tarija, Bolivia. Moreno Baldivieso earned his master’s degree in law from Harvard University. The honorary consul heads his own law firm specialising in trade law, which has branches in many cities in Bolivia. Honorary Consul Moreno Baldivieso speaks Spanish, English, and Portuguese.
