Bilateral relations

The Kingdom of Cambodia is recognised by Estonia through the UN, not by any independent document. Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Estonia and the Kingdom of Cambodia were established on 31 August 2005.

Estonia is covered by the Cambodian Embassy in Moscow. The first ambassador of Cambodia, Chum Sounry, presented his credentials on 16 November 2006. The current Cambodian Ambassador Khieu Thavika presented his credentials on 31 January 2008.

 Foreign Minister Urmas Paet and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong met in Madrid within the framework of the meeting of the European Union and ASEAN foreign ministers on 26 May 2010.

In May 2011 State Secretary of the Foreign Ministry of Cambodia Ouch Borits visited Estonia. No high-level visits to Cambodia have been made by Estonia. No bilateral agreements have been signed between the two countries.

An Estonia-Cambodia parliamentary group was formed in the XII Riigikogu. Its chairman is Kalle Jents.

Economic relations

In 2012 Cambodia was in 93rd place among Estonia’s trade partners (total turnover 1231 thousand EUR, export 218 thousand EUR and import 1013 thousand EUR).

The main article of export was machinery and equipment and the main articles of import were land transport vehicles (bicycles).
